    2022 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Ignis, Swift scores 1 star in Global NCAP

    The second set of results complying with Global NCAP’s new and more demanding crash test protocols were published in the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign today. The three Maruti Suzuki models, the Swift, S-Presso and Ignis, were tested in their basic safety specification with two frontal airbags and ABS. None of the three models provide ESC or side curtain airbags as standard or as optional equipment. All three models demonstrated unstable structures during frontal crash testing.

    The protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good. Driver’s chest showed poor protection leading to a one star capping and passenger’s chest showed marginal protection. Driver’s knees showed marginal protection as they can impact with dangerous structures behind the fascia, passenger’s knees showed good protection. Driver’s tibias showed marginal and adequate protection and passenger’s tibias showed adequate protection. Footwell area was rated as unstable. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and will not be capable of withstanding further loadings.

    The manfacturer refused to recomend CRS for the test therefor dynamic points were not awarded. The child seat for the 3 year old was installed forward facing using the adult seatbelt and it was not able to prevent head forward excusrion over the allowed limits during the frontal impact. The child seat for the 18 month old was installed rearward facing using the adult seatbelt and it was able to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact offering good protection to the head and poor to the chest.

    The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso does not offer 3 point belts in all seating positions. The car does not offer the possibility to disconnect the passenger airbag in case a rearward facing CRS will be installed in this position. The CRS installation passed only for some of the assessed CRS.

    2022 Maruti Suzuki Ignis

The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it will not be capable of withstanding further loadings.

The CRS installation passed only for some of the assessed CRS.

    The protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good. Driver’s chest showed weak protection and passenger’s chest showed adequate protection. Driver’s knees and passenger’s right knee showed marginal protection as they can impact with dangerous structures behind the fascia, passenger’s left knee showed good protection. Driver’s tibias showed adequate protection and passenger’s tibias showed good protrection. Footwell area was rated as unstable. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and will not be capable of withstanding further loadings.

    The child seat for the 3 year old was installed FWF with ISOFIX and top tether and was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact while it offered good protection to the head and marginal protection to the chest. The 18 month old CRS was installed with ISOFIX and top tether forward facing which explains the loss of head points, it showed poor protection for the head and chest. The recommended CRSs did not show incompatibility. The vehicle offers standard ISOFIX and top tether anchorages in the 2 outboard rear seats and does not offer 3 point belts in all seating positions. The passenger airbag cannot be disconected in the case of a CRS intalled in the front passenger position.
